Is Under the Nile organic?

We list 5 Under the Nile products. Between them they carry GOTS, each confirmed on the brand's own page or the certifier's records. A seal belongs to a product, not a brand, so check the one you buy.

We have not tested these products. Each one was checked against the brand’s own page and the certifier’s records. Product links may be affiliate links: if you buy through one we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. How we choose.

The Under the Nile products we list

  1. Listed on Organic Baby Blankets

    1Under the NileLightweight receiving blanket

    Organic Egyptian Cotton Receiving Blanket

Under the Nile describes this as a lightweight receiving blanket made from GOTS certified organic Egyptian combed cotton, sized for swaddling, cuddling and everyday care.

Good to know: The page does not print a GOTS licence number, so look for it on the label. If you swaddle with it, follow the AAP guidance below on when to stop.

2Under the NileSmall add-on gift, newborn size

    Mitten + Bootie Gift Set

One pair of booties and one pair of mittens in a reusable organic muslin bag, sized 0 to 3 months. The product page says the set is made of organic Egyptian cotton certified by GOTS, and the brand's certifications page names its certifier and licence number.

Good to know: A small set with two items, both cotton. Nothing in it falls outside the textile claim.

3Under the NileCover only, Egyptian cotton

    Changing Pad Cover

The product page states the cover is made of 100% organic Egyptian cotton and certified by GOTS, and that the fabric is free of azo colorants, flame retardants, formaldehyde and fragrance.

Good to know: This is a cover, not a pad. The certification says nothing about the pad you put it on. The page gives the size in centimeters and says it fits most changing pads, so measure yours.

4Under the NileMuslin weave, Egyptian cotton

    Muslin Crib Sheet

The product page states the sheet is made of 100% organic Egyptian cotton and certified by GOTS. The brand also says the fabric is free of azo colorants, flame retardants, formaldehyde and fragrance.

Good to know: The page gives the size in centimeters and says it fits most crib mattresses. Measure yours first: a crib sheet has to fit tightly.

  5. Listed on Organic Stuffed Animals & Dolls

5Under the NileOrganic cotton shell and stuffing

Artie the Polar Bear Stuffed Animal Toy

A brushed terry polar bear that the product page says is made and stuffed with organic Egyptian cotton, certified by GOTS, and suitable from birth. The brand's certifications page names its certifier, ICEA, and prints its licence number, which is the detail to look for.

Good to know: The GOTS claim covers the cotton textile. Toy safety is a separate matter: the page says the brand's toys are CPSIA compliant.

Questions people ask

Is everything Under the Nile sells certified organic?

Not necessarily, and we do not claim it. Certification applies to individual products. We checked 5 Under the Nile products for this site, and 5 of them carry at least one of the certifications listed here. For anything else the brand sells, look for the seal and the certifier's name on that product's label.

How can I check a Under the Nile certification myself?

Each product below lists the pages we checked it against. For USDA Organic, search the USDA Organic Integrity Database for the company name. For GOTS, the GOTS public database lists licensed companies. Other seals are explained, with their lookup tools, on our labels pages.
