Brand check

Is Birch organic?

We list 2 Birch products. Between them they carry GOLS and GREENGUARD Gold, each confirmed on the brand's own page or the certifier's records. A seal belongs to a product, not a brand, so check the one you buy.

We have not tested these products. Each one was checked against the brand’s own page and the certifier’s records. Product links may be affiliate links: if you buy through one we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. How we choose.

The Birch products we list

  1. Listed on Organic Kids Mattresses

    1BirchComponent-certified, emissions tested

    Birch Kids Natural Mattress

Birch states that its latex is GOLS certified and that the mattress meets the chemical emissions requirements for GREENGUARD Gold certification. The page describes organic latex, natural wool and an organic cotton cover, with no polyurethane foam or fiberglass.

Good to know: The page does not claim GOTS for the finished mattress. The organic certification here is for the latex only, which is why the brand calls the mattress natural. Contains latex and wool.

  2. Listed on Organic Mattresses

    2BirchComponent-certified, not GOTS

    Birch Natural Mattress

A hybrid with an organic cotton cover, natural wool and latex over coils. The brand states the latex is GOLS certified, prints a GOLS licence number on its certifications page, and says its sleep products are GREENGUARD Gold certified by UL for low chemical emissions.

Good to know: Not a GOTS certified mattress: the pages we opened name no GOTS certificate for the mattress, its cotton or its wool. The product page does not explain how the mattress meets the federal flammability tests. Contains wool and latex.

Questions people ask

Is everything Birch sells certified organic?

Not necessarily, and we do not claim it. Certification applies to individual products. We checked 2 Birch products for this site, and 2 of them carry at least one of the certifications listed here. For anything else the brand sells, look for the seal and the certifier's name on that product's label.

How can I check a Birch certification myself?

Each product below lists the pages we checked it against. For USDA Organic, search the USDA Organic Integrity Database for the company name. For GOTS, the GOTS public database lists licensed companies. Other seals are explained, with their lookup tools, on our labels pages.
